My name is Yizhou Wang. I hold a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (2015), and completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
After graduate school, I spent a decade in the autonomous driving industry, with tenures at NVIDIA, Holomatics, and several other companies. During that time, I focused on the full-stack engineering challenges that come with deploying autonomous systems at scale.
I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area (Tri-Valley), though since early 2023 I have been splitting my time between the U.S. and China, working with start-up companies on the ground. I make the trip roughly every six to eight weeks and expect to continue doing so for the foreseeable future.
By around 2024, autonomous driving had reached a point of relative maturity in the Chinese automotive industry — functional enough that the frontier had shifted. The more pressing open problem became AI infrastructure: how to close the loop between raw data, automated labeling, model training, and production-ready deployment at scale. That challenge drew my attention for a while, but as the field consolidated, I turned toward what I see as the next frontier: general-purpose robotics.
I currently serve as CTO of Infiforce, a robotics start-up where my work spans model development and data systems. This blog is where I share technical notes, lessons learned, and observations from the intersection of robotics, software engineering, and applied AI. Stay tuned.
